Fatal Stabbing: Man, 39, Kills Lover in Murang’a

According to a neighbor, the man was furious when he discovered her drinking with other men, and she slapped him when he confronted her.

Thursday morning, police in Murang’a, Kenya, arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly stabbing to death his lover.

After an argument, Elijah Muthie Njanja reportedly stabbed Lucy Wanjiru, 44, to death, causing residents of the Mukuyu area to express shock and disbelief.

David Mathiu, commander of the Murang’a County Police Department, stated that Wanjiru was stabbed multiple times during an incident that occurred around 3 a.m. in a home that the two shared.

“They returned home late and began arguing in their rented home,” he explained.

“The victim arrived at the residence around midnight, and the suspect followed her two hours later,” Mathieu added.

The victim’s screams prompted the deceased’s daughter to sound the alarm, and several nearby residents responded.

Wanjiru had already sustained injuries and was lying in a pool of blood by the time they were able to break a window in the house.

Muthie was also lying on the floor, feigning unconsciousness to avoid the wrath of the public, according to the police.

“The daughter told our officers that the two had locked themselves in their bedroom before the fight began,” he said.

Before the deceased left to seek employment elsewhere, the two met while working in a local hotel and began living together.

A neighbor, John Njoroge, told the Star that the two had met in a bar in Mukuyu market.

According to Njoroge, the man was outraged to find his lover drinking with other men. But when he confronted her, Wanjiru slapped him, causing him to leave the bar in a huff.

Mathieu stated that the suspect used a kitchen knife to stab his girlfriend. Whose body bore deep stab wounds to the chest and back of the head.

He explained that the suspect had resided with the victim for some time. And that the two had recurring domestic disputes that were occasionally resolved with the assistance of local administrators.

The police chief added that preliminary investigations revealed that the couple was not married, despite living together.

The suspect is currently receiving medical care at Murang’a Level 5 Hospital. And will be charged with murder as soon as he is released.

The victim’s body was transported to the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy.

The kitchen knife that the suspect is believed to have used to stab the victim was recovered from the crime scene and will be used as evidence.

Mathiu urged the public to embrace nonviolent approaches to conflict resolution and expressed concern over the rise in family murders.

Mathiu noted that the pair had been advised to separate due to their disagreements, but they chose to continue living together.
