On May 10, 2023, a truck collided with vehicles in Migori, Kenya, causing an accident.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while driving at high speed after the brakes failed.

CCTV also captured the impact of the truck that forced some vehicles and motorcycles into the ditch and the middle of the road as residents fled for safety.

Later, locals rushed to the scene to rescue and transport the survivors to the hospital.

In addition, the impact of the truck overturning in the ditch destroyed an improvised bridge at the pick-up stage, as well as priceless property.

The accident resulted in the deaths of at least two people and the hospitalization of several others who sustained multiple injuries.

The incident occurred one month after a truck struck and killed at least seven boda boda drivers in the area.

Wednesday, April 19th, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced a mandatory inspection of all vehicles to eliminate unroadworthy vehicles.

“It has been noted that the majority of collisions were caused by tire blowouts, brake failure at high speeds, and collisions with vehicles with substandard retroreflective strips, thereby impairing road visibility,” the CS stated.

Murkomen instructed the National Transportation and Safety Administration (NTSA) to implement a nationwide crackdown on Monday, May 8.

According to data collected by the NTSA between January and March of 2023, 1,072 people perished in road accidents.
