Faith Kipyegon and Emmanuel Wanyonyi Shine as Kenya Secures 9 Medals at Paris 2024 Olympics
Faith Kipyegon solidified her legacy as the greatest 1,500m runner on Saturday night, securing Kenya’s fourth gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a decisive victory.
Kipyegon executed a strategic race, staying close to the leading pack before moving in the final 250 meters. She surged ahead to cross the finish line in 3:51.29, setting a new Olympic record despite her surprise.
Although Kipyegon had aspirations for double gold, she fell short in the 5,000m, where fellow Kenyan Beatrice Chebet, in peak form, claimed the top .
Chebet, 24, secured gold in two events, including the women’s 10,000m.

On the final day of the Paris Olympics at Stade de France, World 800m silver medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi outpaced Canada’s Marco Arop to clinch Kenya’s third gold medal.
In a closely contested race, Wanyonyi edged out Arop with a personal best time of 1:41.19, just ahead of Arop’s North American record time of 1:41.20, earning silver.
Wanyonyi’s triumph brought Kenya’s medal count to eight, including three gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.
Inspired by Olympic legend David Rudisha, Wanyonyi took an early lead and maintained control of the race despite Arop’s late challenge, securing Kenya’s hold on the two-lap race title. Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati, the fastest man this year, claimed the bronze.
Kenya’s medal haul now stands at nine, with 4 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals, hoping to add more when Hellen Obiri, Peres Jepchirchir, and Sharon Lokedi compete in the women’s marathon Sunday morning.
