Fact Check: No Blood Ties Between Health Nominee Dr. Barasa & KRA Chief Dr. Wattanga
Earlier today, President William Ruto reshuffled his cabinet, responding to a wave of protests that demanded a reorganization of his government.
In a live national address, President Ruto nominated 11 individuals to guide the country’s progress. Six of these nominees are already well-known public figures.
However, five of the nominees are new faces whose profiles are not widely recognized by Kenyans.
President Ruto selected Dr. Debra Mlongo Barasa to lead the crucial Health CS docket, making her responsible for the Kenya Kwanza Health blueprint if her nomination is approved by the National Assembly.
The new nominees sparked immediate debate about their backgrounds and profiles among the public.

While many Kenyans accurately retrieved profiles of some nominees, misinformation about others began to circulate.
For example, some social media users falsely claimed that Health CS nominee Dr. Debra Barasa is related to the current Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner General Dr. Humphrey Wattanga.
The erroneous post suggested that Dr. Wattanga is married to the sister of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and that both are from Kimilili in Bungoma County.
Gossipa2z.com has verified these claims and found them to be false. Dr. Barasa and Dr. Wattanga are not related.
