Exclusive: Eyewitness Account Reveals Final Moments in Tragic Nakuru-Eldoret Highway Crash

A person who survived the tragic accident which resulted in the loss of 15 lives on Tuesday at the Twin Bridge location along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway has recounted the final moments leading up to the unfortunate event.

During the press conference, the survivor revealed that the accident took place when the bus they were riding collided with an approaching matatu.

The man stated that the crash happened as the bus driver tried to pass another vehicle.

“The driver was attempting to overtake then suddenly we heard a loud bang then immediately the driver told us to evacuate,” the man narrated.

As per the survivor’s account, the bus traveling from Congo to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania was in a satisfactory state, and the driver was adhering to the prescribed speed limit when the unfortunate event took place.

โ€œWhile coming from Congo, through Kampala to Kenya we had a good journey, we were traveling through Kenya to Dar es Salaam, the speed was okay, we were traveling in a bus. We arrived at the Kenya-Uganda border and were cleared without any problem,” the survivor noted.

โ€œWe arrived here (Mau Summit) and at the time, there was another vehicle in front of us,”

Describing the experience, the survivor mentioned that although the majority of individuals in the matatu they crashed into passed away, none of the occupants traveling on the bus were reported dead, despite many sustaining minor injuries.

โ€œThe driver was the first to come out then I followed. I then saw him converging with other bus crew before they walked away,” the survivor denoted.

After the unfortunate incident, police officers from Mau Summit Police Station were sent to secure the area while inquiries into the incident began.

As per a National Police Service report, the bus in the crash was owned by a public transportation operator from Congo, whereas the 14-seater matatu belonged to a transport company based in Kenya.

“The injured were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital,” NPS noted in a statement.
