Ex-Governor Okoth Obado Accused Of Causing Split In UDA Party
Tensions within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in Migori County escalated on Sunday due to ongoing leadership disputes, as some party leaders pointed fingers at former governor Okoth Obado, alleging that he is responsible for fracturing the party’s unity in Migori.
Under the leadership of Fred Siengo, the UDA party coordinator for the county, disgruntled leaders alleged that Obado, who serves as the UDA party manager for the Nyanza region, is excluding other leaders while handling what he asserts to be party matters.
Siengo mentioned that the recent gathering at Obado’s residence in Rapogi, Uriri sub-county, took place without prior notification to other significant party figures in Migori County.
Siengo emphasized that they won’t tolerate individuals seizing control of the party. They stated that the party has established structures and leadership that must be consulted before any party meeting is convened.

He additionally asserted that certain individuals who switched allegiance to the UDA following the 2022 general election are attempting to seize command of the party, marginalizing its founders.
Siengo stated that they will not endorse situations where people simply wear UDA party clothing and organize gatherings without the approval of the party leadership.
Bevin Bhoke reiterated his sentiments, expressing a desire for harmony within the party in Migori County. He emphasized the importance of designated UDA party leaders in the county taking the lead in organizing meetings and issuing directives as needed.
She mentioned that people who switched to UDA following the 2022 election should proceed cautiously and await guidance from existing members.
In the meeting that took place a week ago, Obado asserted that some UDA members are not aligning their efforts with the rest of the party members.
He stated that he holds the position of regional manager, which means that other leaders in the region are required to work under his authority.
