Ex-Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s Wife Faces Ksh.562M Graft Charges, Released on Ksh.5M Bond
Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s wife, Jane Waigwe Kimani, appeared in court on Tuesday to face corruption charges amounting to Ksh.562 million related to Murang’a County.
Appearing before Milimani Anti-Corruption Magistrate Victor Wakhumile, Jane, along with her co-accused, her brother David Maina Kiama, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The charges primarily involve conspiracy to commit corruption offenses.
Specifically, between October 2014 and June 2017, Jane and nine others were accused of illegally securing a contract for media services provided by Top Image Media Consultant Limited, valued at over Ksh.351 million.
Both Jane and her brother were released on a Ksh.5 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Ksh.1 million.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) confirmed that the accused must surrender their travel documents to the court and are prohibited from leaving the country without the court’s permission.
On April 30, former Governor Wa Iria himself spent a night in Industrial Area Prison after failing to meet the required bond of Ksh.20 million or cash bail of Ksh.10 million.
He faces several corruption charges, including abuse of office, conflict of interest, illegal acquisition of public property, and money laundering. Wa Iria, like his wife and brother-in-law, has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
These legal developments are part of a broader anti-corruption campaign in Kenya aimed at curbing mismanagement and misuse of public resources.
The high-profile cases involving former Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and his wife highlight the ongoing efforts to hold public officials accountable for corruption and ensure transparency and integrity in the use of public funds.
