Emotional Testimony Unveils Shocking Bribery Scandal: Witness Breaks Down in Senate Impeachment Hearing Against Kisii Deputy Governor
Dennis Mokaya, a witness, became emotional on Wednesday at the Senate impeachment hearing for Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda.
The individual gave testimony accusing the Director General (DG), claiming that he and his father supposedly offered a bribe amounting to Ksh 800,000 to the Deputy Governor. The alleged purpose of this bribe was to sway the results of a job interview at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company Limited (GWASCO).
Mokaya clarified that he applied for the role of Commercial Manager at GWASCO. During this time, his father reportedly arranged to provide a bribe to the Deputy Governor, with whom they shared a longstanding friendship, to secure favorable consideration for Mokaya’s application.
He emotionally revealed that his family went through significant hardship after settling the payment. This was attributed to his father’s actions, claiming that his father had seemingly sold off the business assets in Ruai, which had been managed by his wife.
Mokaya declared that he suffered a loss of his entire life savings due to the purported transaction. Throughout the legal proceedings, he asserted that he had to move to a new location after being unsuccessful in obtaining the mentioned position.
He went on to explain that his wife, who objected to giving the bribe, was deeply upset when he was unable to secure the position.

“My wife did not take it easy. At that time, she was expectant after twelve years of trying and she ended up suffering a miscarriage,” explained the witness.
Unexpectedly, Mokaya’s parents are anticipated to appear at the Senate on Thursday, where they will provide testimony in support of the Deputy Governor.
On the contrary, the Director General’s argument revolves around the repayment of a loan by Mokaya’s parents, while the witness is challenging this assertion.
Nevertheless, Mokaya faced intense scrutiny in the Senate, with lawmakers asserting that his acknowledgment implied a confession to criminal intent. This was based on his alleged plan to secure an unfair advantage through the payment of the bribe in question.
Furthermore, the Senate interviewed the individual following allegations of a gambling issue, prompting inquiries into both his character and financial stewardship.
The impeachment hearing is anticipated to persist, with the proceedings advancing on Thursday.
The Kisii County Assembly impeached Dr. Robert Monda based on allegations of serious misconduct and misuse of office.
