Eight Police Officers Suspended Following Escape of Alleged Serial Killer and 12 Suspects
Eight police officers, including the Gigiri OCPD and Gigiri Police Station OCS, have been suspended.
The suspension was confirmed by Acting Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli.
This follows the escape of Collins Jumaisi, a prime suspect linked to the alleged murder of 42 women in Kware, who broke out of police custody on Tuesday morning.
Jumaisi fled alongside 12 other suspects of Eritrean origin.
Masengeli stated that those suspended include the Gigiri Sub County Police Commander, the OCS, the duty officer, the duty NCO, station guards, and the report office personnel.
He added that an investigation into the escape is ongoing.
The 12 Eritrean nationals were detained for illegal entry into Kenya and were awaiting deportation.
Jumaisi is reportedly connected to the Kware murders.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the escape was facilitated internally, given that officers were properly assigned to guard the station,” he said.
“As a result, I have suspended eight officers who were on duty that night.”
Masengeli said the Internal Affairs Unit is currently investigating the matter, and any guilty party will be held accountable.
“We have launched a manhunt to re-arrest the escapees. We urge the public to provide any information that could lead to the capture of the suspects, particularly the murder suspect, Collins Jumaisi Kalusha. Reports can be made to the nearest police station or through the police hotlines 999, 112, 911, and 0800 722 203,” he said.
Masengeli was accompanied by DCI Director Mohamed Amin and DIG Kenya Police Eliud Lagat.
The team inspected the area from which the suspects escaped.
