DP Gachagua Reveals Presidency Will Keep Off Meru Political Wrangles
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua proclaimed on Sunday that the Kenya Kwanza leadership, including President William Ruto and himself, will not intervene in the Meru disputes that have threatened to paralyze the county.
The Vice President stated during a church service at the Methodist Church of Kenya Kaelo in Meru County that the Kenya Kwanza leadership will allow local politicians to manage the issue.
‘’We have talked with the Governor, Deputy Governor, and all leaders and we have all agreed that this is a Meru problem,’’ stated Gachagua.
The Vice President disclosed that even church leaders had asked him and the President to avoid disputes.
At the same time, the Deputy President threatened to expose Mt.
‘’I would like to request the Governor, Deputy Governor, Senator, Mithika Linturi, church leaders to sit and decide what is good for the region,’’ noted the Deputy President.
The occasion was attended by numerous Meru leaders, including the region’s governor, Kawira Mwangaza, the agriculture cabinet secretary, Mithika Linturi, the senator for Meru, Murungi Kathuri, and several members of parliament and county councilors.

“I desire that my dear brothers and sisters, you make peace for the development of this county. Request you with due respect. I ask the political, religious, and elders to sit down and bring peace,” the Deputy President said.
Recent political strife in Meru County has been exemplified by an argument between Governor Mwangaza and her delegate, Isaac Mutuma.
After filing the first impeachment motion against the county chief in December 2022, some Meru County MCAs have threatened to file a second impeachment motion against the county chief due to the protracted nature of the disputes.
Notably, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki prohibited on September 22 Governor Mwangaza’s Okolea political meetings, which were intended to sponsor needy county students.
The directive was issued after one of the meetings on September 17 descended into chaos, in which several people were injured, mattresses were set on fire, and a cow was murdered, resulting in the arrest of ten suspects.
