DP Gachagua: Gov’t to Fire County Administrators Colluding with Drug and Alcohol Peddlers
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned that the government will take strict measures against county administrators who are colluding with drug peddlers and illicit alcohol brewers in their respective regions.
He expressed his concern about the increase in drug and alcohol abuse in devolved units due to the complacency of county administrators.
Speaking in Ngong, Kajiado County, he said that the government was willing to sack 50% of county administrators who fail to address this issue.
He emphasized that there would be no transfers, and if an OCS or commissioner could not handle the issue of drugs, they would be sacked.
The Deputy President ordered county administrators to take a proactive approach to combating the misuse of drugs and alcohol in their area of administration.
He issued a directive to the county commissioner. Stating that drugs and chiefs could not exist in the same area, and one had to go away.
He asked the county commissioner to convene a security meeting on Monday. And come up with a plan to deal with the problem.

The plan should include a list of all drug peddlers and illicit brewers. And chiefs and assistant chiefs should be involved in its implementation.
Gachagua’s comments suggest that the government is taking a strong stance. Against drug and alcohol abuse and is determined to hold county administrators accountable for their actions.
He highlighted the need for a collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies, county administrators, and local leaders. To tackle the problem effectively.
The Deputy President’s remarks came at a time when drug and alcohol abuse has become a significant concern in Kenya. Particularly among the youth.
The government has been implementing various measures to address this issue. Including the establishment of rehabilitation centers. And the enactment of legislation to regulate the sale of alcohol and other substances.
