Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told Mt. Kenya residents not to criticize the government over the high cost of fuel.

Gachagua said the people of Mt.Kenya are the number one supporters of President William Ruto adding that they voted him in en mass.

The DP has said the Mt Kenya nation should not be among those criticizing the government because it is them who formed it.

“Nawaomba nyinyi tuelewe, please, please, watu wangu wa Nyandarua na Mlima Kenya hii serikali ni yetu. Nyinyi ndio mlichagua rais William Ruto. Kama wengine watatupa mawe, nyinyi msikue wa kwanza. Kwa sababu ukweli ni huo, that the problem is not in Kenya only, it is global,” the Deputy President said.

(“I am asking you to understand, please, please, my people of Nyandarua and Mount Kenya, this government is ours. You are the ones who elected President William Ruto. If others will throw stones, you should not be the first. Because the truth is that the problem is not in Kenya only, it is global)

Gachagua said the fuel prices will drop with time since the President is doing his best to handle the situation.

He noted that the President has even reduced the cost of fertilizers in a bid to lower the costs of living for Kenyans.

“Na ndo nilimuambia ndugu yangu jana Moses Kuria, yeye ni mtoto wa nyumbani na tutamchapa kidogo tukimrudisha nyumbani. Sababu alikua amesema watu wachimbe visima. Na Kuria ni mtoto wetu na kwa hivyo tukamuambia na akaskia na tunaendelea na yeye,” he said.

(I told my brother Moses Kuria yesterday, that he is our child and we will beat him a little as we bring him home because he told people to dig their wells if they want cheaper fuel. And Kuria is our son and if he has accepted to be corrected we continue with him.)

In its latest price review, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority revised the prices upwards as follows; Super Petrol by Sh16.96, Diesel by Sh21.32, and Kerosene by Sh33.13.

The move made the fuel prices cross a record Sh200 mark for the first time in Kenya’s history, with the rate rising by as much as Sh20 for every liter.

This means the pump prices will be as follows; Super Petrol at Sh211.64, Diesel at Sh201, and Kerosene at Sh202.13 per litre in Nairobi.
