Disruption and Arson: Goons Target ODM Leaders’ Meeting in Siaya

On Wednesday, May 17, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Executive meeting was disrupted by unruly youths who stormed the venue and evicted party offices.

The meeting in Wagai, Gem Town. Was abruptly terminated after the visibly enraged goons assaulted ODM grassroots executives.

Before the arrival of the attackers, one of the party’s executives told the media that all indications pointed to the possibility of violence.

“Upon our arrival in the morning, we discovered that someone had attempted to set fire to ODM offices. The entrance to the office had caught fire.

“The plastic chairs that we had gathered the previous evening were also completely ablaze. We reported the matter to the police and requested an investigation,” ODM Party officials explained.

After arriving for the meeting, a group of unruly youths entered and began making unfounded demands, including that the delegates leave the building.

The obstinate delegates maintained their position for a few minutes. But the situation deteriorated when the unruly youth began removing the officials from the premises.

As attendees fled for their lives, chaos ensued, even though some elderly officials lacked the necessary strength to escape the wrath of the youth.

“They stated that we couldn’t hold our meeting at the Party’s headquarters. “The police arrived, and there was a protracted standoff that ultimately forced the officers to leave,” an ODM official said.

After being evicted from their party offices. Orange party officials stated that they would ensure that the violent youth and their sponsor were brought to justice.

ODM Party stated, “The thugs who assaulted us are well-known to us and we know the member of parliament who dispatched them.”

The officials also asserted that they knew who was responsible for the attack and disrespectful behavior that destroyed party property.

“The member of parliament is one of the ODM Party’s leaders. Who had moved to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA),” an ODM official explained.
