Didimus Barasa Exposed for Fake Poll on Raila’s AUC Bid
Kimilili MP Dismus Barasa has come under fire for sharing a poll suggesting that Raila Odinga, Kenya’s candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, has taken an early lead in the race.
The MP’s poster claimed that Raila was leading with 80% of the votes, trailed by Djibouti’s Mohamoud Ali at 8%.
Barasa captioned the post on X, stating, “Raila Odinga takes the early lead! The AUC CHAIRMANSHIP seat is ours for keeps!”
Additionally, the poster alleged that Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato secured 2% of the votes, while 10% of respondents remained undecided. The post circulated widely on social media, garnering significant attention.

Amani Africa, however, refuted the claims on December 12, stating they never conducted such a poll.
The organization labeled the MP’s actions as “malicious and criminal,” accusing him of spreading misinformation and disinformation.
Amani Africa demanded the immediate removal of its logo from the controversial poster, expressing complete disapproval of the misuse.
They emphasized, “Amani Africa rejects this act and demands the immediate withdrawal of the use of its logo.”
This controversy emerges as Africa anticipates a high-stakes debate, “Mjadala Afrika,” featuring the three candidates: Kenya’s Raila Odinga, Djibouti’s Mohamoud Ali, and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato. The debate is slated for December 13 at 7 p.m.
The event marks a pivotal moment ahead of the election for the AUC Chairperson, a role set to become vacant in February 2025 with the conclusion of Moussa Faki Mahamat’s term.
