Later that evening, Raila will deliver a keynote address at the Grand Campaign Reception, which will take place at the AU Multipurpose Hall.

This event follows the official launch of Raila’s AUC candidacy three months ago, which took place at a high-profile ceremony at State House, Nairobi.
The launch was hosted by President William Ruto and saw the attendance of several East African Community (EAC) heads of state, including Presidents Salva Kiir of South Sudan, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, and Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania.
During his speech, Raila outlined his vision for the African Union, underscoring his commitment to making it more inclusive and focused on advancing the interests of all Africans.
“We plan to introduce African Union visas that will allow unrestricted travel across the continent, removing the need for individual visas. This will simplify travel and enhance trade within Africa,” he stated.
Meanwhile, President Ruto praised Raila as Kenya’s “most capable steward” for the AUC role, highlighting his qualifications and suitability for leadership in the commission.
“Raila Odinga’s distinguished leadership and exemplary career position him as the ideal candidate to lead the AUC and advance Africa’s transformation and Agenda 2063. He is a passionate advocate for African unity, integration, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment,” he said.
