Details Of Gachagua’s Closed-Door Meeting With Moses Kuria
On Tuesday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria met behind closed doors with other United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party members at the residence of the DP in Karen.
In recent weeks, the two senior officials have disagreed over each other’s comments, leading to rumors of a rift in the ruling coalition.
Specifically, Gachagua reprimanded CS Kuria for his remarks on petroleum prices, after he advised Kenyans to prepare for further increases.
Kuria, on the other hand, has criticized the DP for rejecting his “shareholder” stance on how the government should distribute development.
According to the DP, Kuria accompanied him to the four-hour meeting with Kajiado County elected officials who had business-related concerns.
Gachagua referred to the CS as his younger sibling, implying that they have no differences despite rumors of a rift between President William Ruto’s Mt Kenya allies.
In an act of solidarity, Gachagua also shared photographs he had taken with Kuria outside his official residence as they discussed unspecified matters.

He indicated that the government was eager to engage with Kenyans continuously as they addressed their concerns.
“Continuous engagement is our mode of governance. This evening, in the company of my younger brother, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, we had an engagement with businessmen from Kajiado County,” Gachagua stated.
“We discussed the challenges facing them in their businesses. Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo was also at the meeting at the Official Residence in Karen.”
Additionally, 18 religious representatives from Kajiado County were present at the meeting.
Public disagreements between the DP and the CS prompted a portion of UDA Mt Kenya region leaders to call for the CS’s dismissal from Cabinet.
However, at the burial of Field Marshal Muthoni Kirima a few days later, Gachagua reaffirmed his support for Kuria, allaying any concerns of a cabinet crisis under Ruto.
“Kuria is my minister, I will not sack him, I was just correcting him, and as his boss I was correcting him as is my right. However, I will not listen to those who are calling for his exit from cabinet, he is one of us and we must protect each other,” he stated.
