Details: Joho’s Fiery Rant Over Social Media Threats Lands Him in Trouble
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has disclosed that the Senate plans to summon Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho to question him over recent controversial statements.
During a Wednesday interview on Radio Citizen, Sifuna stated that Joho appears to have forgotten that, as a Cabinet Secretary, his words carry more weight and cannot be compared to those of a politician.
“We will call Joho to the Senate to explain why he was threatening Kenyans. The issue is that Joho seems to have forgotten that he is no longer a politician or a governor, but now a minister and his remarks as a minister are taken seriously,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna emphasized that, as a Cabinet Secretary, Joho is responsible for ensuring that his statements are responsible and must be held accountable for everything he says.
“We will summon him for a thorough questioning, asking why he is threatening those who challenge the government,” the senator explained.
Though the Senate is going on recess until February, they will summon the Cabinet Secretary in February 2025. Sifuna assured that despite the break, the Senate would not forget and would hold the session when they reconvene.

Sifunaโs comments were in response to Joho’s remarks made on Tuesday in Taita Taveta, where he criticized social media users who were vocal in their opposition to President William Rutoโs administration.
The former Mombasa governor warned that he might confront bloggers who use social media to criticize Rutoโs government.
โA country cannot be built online. It cannot be built by people who spend their time on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Let me warn them. If they cause trouble, we can also bring trouble,โ Joho stated.
The Cabinet Secretaryโs comments were in relation to the public outcry that prompted President Ruto to cancel two controversial Private Partnership agreements between the Kenyan government and the Indian conglomerate, Adani.
During his visit to Taita Taveta, President Ruto also criticized Kenyans who opposed his initiatives, calling them “evil spirits.”
“There is a destructive spirit of oppositionโopposing everything.”
“They oppose affordable housing, cattle vaccination programs to prevent diseases, reforms to save our universities, and even universal healthcare. They oppose government projects and even donations in churches!” President Ruto remarked.
