Deputy President Gachagua Vows to Protect Former President Uhuru Kenyatta: “I won’t allow people to tarnish Uhuru’s name again”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to protect former President Uhuru Kenyatta from any disparagement that might tarnish his legacy and character.

During an interview with Mt Kenya vernacular radio and TV stations, Gachagua emphasized the need for the nation to cease blaming Uhuru for every mishap.

“I will not allow Uhuru Kenyatta’s name to be sullied anymore because I am now his defender. We want to ensure Uhuru’s name is honored for his significant contributions to this country,” he stated.

Gachagua urged Kenyans to let the retired President and his family enjoy their peace.

He also stressed the importance of granting the former President his retirement benefits as mandated by law.

“He should receive his retirement perks, vehicles, and security detail,” he added.

Gachagua mentioned that Uhuru had previously cautioned the region, but his warnings were ignored, resulting in his embarrassment at the Kasarani handover.

“He went to Kasarani humiliated to hand over the sword. It’s been two years now, why are we still holding him responsible for issues like the economy? Let him be,” he expressed.

“Allow him to rest, and we should address our governmental challenges independently.”

In May 2024, at a rally in Kiambu County, Gachagua dramatically claimed that the Mt Kenya region had been misled into discrediting their leader.

He began efforts to reconcile with Uhuru and the region, vowing never to vilify “the king of the Kikuyu community” again.

“Let’s teach our youth not to be manipulated into denigrating our leader. We should unite and ensure we receive our fair share of the Kenyan prosperity,” he remarked.
