Deceased MP Soita Shitanda’s Wife Thrown Out of 100-Acre Plot in Bungoma
Betty Glorious Soita, the widow of the late Member of Parliament Soita Shitanda, has made a public plea to the government following a distressing incident where unidentified individuals attacked and evicted her from her residence.
The incident took place on a 100-acre property in Tongaren, Bungoma County, which she has been residing on.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, family members recounted the event, explaining that a group of goons forcefully removed them from the property without providing any justification.
They suspect that elements within the Bungoma County government are behind these evictions, alleging a conspiracy to prevent the widow from living on her late husband’s land.
Support for Soita’s widow has surged from within the community. Residents have rallied to her defense, denouncing the evictions as illegal and unjust.
They affirm that the deceased MP was the legitimate owner of the land and urge those responsible for the harassment to desist immediately.
A former employee of the late MP, who served as his driver and personal assistant, provided a personal testimony confirming the legitimacy of Soita’s ownership. He recounted accompanying the MP during the land purchase negotiations, thus validating the widow’s claims.
“As the driver and personal assistant to Soita, I can confirm that this land belongs to him. I was with him when he bought the land,” he stated, reinforcing the family’s position.

Further compounding the sense of betrayal, another resident pointed out that some of the individuals involved in the evictions were former friends of the MP.
These individuals have now turned against his widow in her time of need, exacerbating the community’s sense of injustice.
In response to these events, there has been a collective call for intervention from the government and the Ministry of Lands.
The community and family members urge these bodies to step in and safeguard the widow’s right to her property, ensuring she does not unjustly lose her home.
The late Soita Shitanda, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 56 while undergoing treatment in Nairobi, left behind a substantial estate valued at Ksh70 million.
He had a notable political career, serving the Malava constituency and holding the position of Minister for Housing from 2005, following his re-election in 2007.
His legacy and contributions to the community underscore the gravity of the current situation facing his widow, making the call for government intervention all the more urgent.
