Deaths Reported in Suspected Terrorist Attack in Lamu

The deaths of multiple individuals were reported on Tuesday, April 9 in the Milhoi region of Lamu County, believed to be the result of an alleged assault by Al-Shabaab.

As per the reports, terrorists aimed at and set fire to a truck and a pickup truck close to the Bagdam Bridge situated on the remote North Coast.

Law enforcement officers have been dispatched to the location to evaluate and ascertain details regarding the events that may have precipitated the assault.

After the intense exchange of gunfire, it has been verified that two individuals have lost their lives.

Drivers and residents in the vicinity have been cautioned to exercise additional vigilance due to the ongoing presence of the suspected terrorists.

A search is underway to locate the suspects, with law enforcement officers acting on information suggesting that the attackers are equipped with significant weaponry.

“Members of the public and motorists playing Garsen-Witu-Lamu urged to be extra cautious and vigilant during these times,” Lamu County Watch advised. 

Today’s event signifies the second act of terrorism aimed at Kenyans within a month.

On Sunday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua asserted that Kenya has been free from terrorist attacks for the past two years, attributing this achievement to the effective strategies implemented by the Kenya Kwanza Government.

The Al-Shabaab group is designated as a terrorist organization by various governments and international bodies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations.

Ali Manduku, the Deputy County Commissioner of Liboi, remarked that the assault, happening during the early hours, originated from a dispute in business competition.

Garissa has experienced numerous instances of terrorism throughout its history. The Lamu area is particularly concerning due to its proximity to the Northern region, where terrorist activities have been alarmingly prevalent.
