DCI Recover Ksh 4.5M Counterfeit Alcohol & Stamps in Kahawa Sukari

At Kahawa Sukari and Kamulu in Kiambu and Nairobi Counties, agents from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have recovered counterfeit intoxicating beverages and stamps.

During the investigation, approximately 1078 bottles of counterfeit alcoholic beverages, a roll of counterfeit KRA stamps, 630 liters of ethanol, 10,300 empty bottles, and four sacks of various bottle caps were recovered. 

According to the DCI, the fraudulent alcoholic beverages seized were worth Ksh 500,000, while the counterfeit stamps were worth Ksh 4,000,000.

“A seizure notice was issued and the goods impounded as detectives investigate the source of the ethanol and the fake KRA stamps,” the DCI statement read in part.

However, detectives did not disclose the identities of those arrested with the fake beverages and stamps. 

Three weeks earlier, detectives had launched a manhunt for a suspect who had evaded capture during a police search at his business location in Murang’a County, during which illicit alcohol was recovered.

On September 22, officers from the National Police Service and the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) conducted the recoveries in Gituamba Village, Ngatho Location.  

During the operation, approximately 320 liters of ethanol, distilling barrels, cartons, and bottle caps were recovered, among other items.

“NPS and NGAO Officers nabbed several assorted suspected second generation alcoholic drinks following a raid conducted within Gituamba Village, Ngatho Location,” read the police statement.

The government continues to intensify its fight against illicit brews and narcotics, as well as substance abuse among the nation’s youth, as evidenced by the latest recoveries by detectives.

Vice President Rigathi Gachagua has repeatedly urged chiefs across the nation to curb juvenile drug abuse or risk losing their positions. 

He emphasized that he would continue to pursue the restoration of law and order.
