DCI Arrests Additional Suspects in Mukuru kwa Njenga Serial Murders Case

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended two additional suspects linked to the serial killings in Kware, within the Mukuru kwa Njenga slums of Nairobi. These arrests come after dismembered bodies were discovered at a local dump site.

The initial suspect, Amos Momanyi Mogusa, was detained at City Cabanas on Monday. He was found in possession of a mobile phone belonging to Roselyn Akoth Ogongo, a victim whose body was identified by her family at the Nairobi Funeral Home the same day.

When providing statements to homicide detectives, Ogongo’s family recognized her handbag among the items found at the home of the primary suspect, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who was taken into custody on Monday and subsequently appeared in court on Tuesday.

“The last time I saw my sister, she left home with that handbag,” stated the deceased’s sister, according to a DCI report released Tuesday.

During questioning, Mogusa directed detectives to Moses Ogembo, who reportedly sold him the phone.

“Following Amos Momanyi Mogusa’s arrest at City Cabanas and the recovery of the mobile phone, he led detectives to Ogembo’s residence in Mukuru kwa Reuben, where 154 used mobile phones were discovered,” the DCI reported.

Ogembo confessed to buying used phones from Khalusha.

In court on Tuesday, where the DCI was granted a 30-day custodial order to detain Khalusha for further investigation, Khalusha claimed that the police forced him into confessing to the murders.

โ€œMy client urgently needs medical attention due to molestation and torture during detention. The claim that he confessed to killing 42 people is preposterous,โ€ argued John Maina Ndegwa, Khalusha’s lawyer, at the Makadara Law Courts.

Additionally, the DCI noted that the family of Imelda Judith Karenya believed to be Khalusha’s wife and first victim, confirmed that one of the nine IDs found in the suspect’s home belonged to their relative.
