Danstan Omari, Ombeta Withdraw from Echesa Case Day After Farouk Kibet Was Invoked

On Monday, April 15th, lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta declared that they would cease to act as legal representatives for Rashid Echesa, the former Sports Cabinet Secretary, in an extortion case.

Omari disclosed to Gossipa2z.com that he would cease managing the case.

“Yes, it is true that is the position going forward,” Omari stated adding that he would not make public the reason they decided to withdraw.

Omari additionally penned a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, clarifying that he and Ombeta are not connected to the extortion case.

“Kindly note that we are no longer acting for the above-named person. Any communication with regards to him should be directed to him or his representatives,” the letter read in part.

Echesa has been alleged to have demanded Ksh250 million from Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, an accusation he strongly refutes.

The decision to withdraw occurred just a day after Echesa pointed fingers at Farouk Kibet, President William Ruto’s aide, alleging his involvement in orchestrating his arrest.

During his speech in Kakamega, Echesa asserted that Fernandes Barasa couldn’t possibly have him arrested without the assistance of influential individuals within the government.

“The person who helped Fernandes Barasa to have me arrested is my friend Farouk Kibet whom we campaigned together for President William Ruto,” Echesa had lamented.

“I want to tell Farouk that he has been given a powerful position by the President and he should not use it to intimidate me.”

The ex-Minister of Sports was apprehended on March 27 for alleged self-abduction and extortion.

Omari and Ombeta successfully obtained temporary liberty for Echesa, who was released from police custody to receive medical treatment following his reported illness.
