Cyrus Jirongo Lightens Mood at Daughter’s Funeral, Shares How His Best Friend Snatched First Wife
Former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, and his family are mourning the sudden death of his daughter, Lorraine Elizabeth Khalamwa Jelagat Jirongo.
Lorraine passed away on March 10 after a short illness. She will be laid to rest in a private burial at their family home in Kitale on March 21.
Jirongo’s Hilarious Story About His First Wife
During Lorraine’s funeral service at AIC Milimani in Nairobi, Jirongo shared a personal story about how he met and later separated from his first wife, Carolyne.
Jirongo recalled that Carolyne was considered the most beautiful woman in Kitale, and he could not resist marrying her.
“Mama knows she had the prettiest girl in this town, and with my big eyes, I could not have missed her. I would have failed my people if I had,” he joked, making mourners laugh.
The couple had Lorraine as their firstborn, but their marriage did not last. Jirongo admitted that his wandering eye led to their separation.
“I had bad manners. My eyes kept wandering because they were big. Carolyne could not stand my behavior, so she left when I had three others,” he confessed, sparking laughter.
Jirongo’s Friend Married His Ex-Wife
After their separation, Carolyne married Jirongo’s friend, Munyua Waiyaki.
“Caro later married Munyua. That’s why you are seeing many names. I want to introduce my children and invite Munyua to introduce his, so they recognize they are family,” Jirongo explained.
Taking the stage, Munyua added humor to the moment.
“Cyrus had other people, so he lost focus. I was right behind him,” he joked.
The two families later introduced their children, with Munyua’s firstborn meeting his older siblings for the first time.
“What we have added, Cyrus, is height,” Munyua teased as he handed his son the microphone.
Kenyans React to Jirongo’s Story
The emotional yet humorous speech sparked reactions from Kenyans:
🔹 Sultan K. Dilano: “Few men admit their mistakes. They are always quick to blame the other party!”
🔹 Mary Shyro: “I like that he is honest and takes responsibility for his past mistakes.”
🔹 Grace Njeina: “The person you don’t value, someone else does. Let that sink in.”
Why Jirongo’s Daughter Will Not Be Buried at His Home
During the funeral, Jirongo explained why Lorraine will not be buried at his homestead.
He revealed that Lorraine had children who were his ex-wife’s grandchildren. To ensure they are cared for, he decided to have her buried at her mother’s home, where her children will be looked after by their grandmother.
