Cursed Money! Gachagua Warns Mt Kenya as Ruto Plans Cash Blitz—”Eat It, Don’t Take It Home”

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned the Mt Kenya region to be cautious about President William Ruto’s tactic of giving out large sums of money during his visit.

Speaking in Naivasha on Saturday, Gachagua claimed that the president was willing to spend big to regain the trust of the vote-rich region.

Gachagua’s Advice: Take the Money but Don’t Keep It

The former DP advised residents to accept the money but not take it home, saying it was ‘cursed.’

“Don’t worry. Get ready, money is coming in bags. Take it, but don’t go home with it; it is cursed. Eat that money at the market. Do not mix it with the money you already have. If you have a loan with a shylock, use that money to pay it off,” Gachagua said.

Calls for Higher Pay for Mobilization Efforts

Gachagua also urged Mt Kenya residents to demand higher payments from the government’s mobilization team ahead of Ruto’s visit.

“If you are going to listen to lies, ask for a hefty price because lies are a bad thing. Don’t accept Ksh.200. Listening to lies starts from Ksh.3,000. Women ululating is worth Ksh.10,000, and clapping is Ksh.2,000. Laughing is Ksh.5,000,” he added.

According to Gachagua, a proper welcome for Ruto should cost between Ksh.20,000 to Ksh.30,000 per person. He told the president to be ready to spend, saying, “President Ruto, get your finances in order and bring the money we elected you for free.”

    Gachagua’s Political Offensive

For two years, Gachagua was seen as the top leader of Mt Kenya. However, since his impeachment, he and his allies have been actively opposing the Kenya Kwanza administration, highlighting the country’s economic struggles.

Ruto’s First Visit to Mt Kenya Since Gachagua’s Impeachment

President Ruto is set to visit Mt Kenya for the first time in six months. His tour will start on Tuesday, April 1, in Laikipia and Nyeri Counties and end on Friday, April 4, in Tharaka Nithi County.

Ahead of his visit, government-allied Mt Kenya leaders have been tasked with ensuring a warm reception for the president.

Given Mt Kenya’s crucial role in elections, President Ruto is expected to do everything possible to win back the region’s support. During the 2022 elections, he secured 3.5 million votes out of 7.1 million from Mt Kenya.

    Conclusion

As political tensions rise, Mt Kenya residents are closely watching Ruto’s visit. Will his efforts to win back the region succeed, or will Gachagua’s influence sway public opinion? Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
