CS Tuya Opens Investigations Into More Officials Hours After Ruto Sacking Order

Environment CS Soipan Tuya disclosed that investigations have been opened against Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officers, a day after President William Ruto ordered the dismissal of 23 KFS employees for corruption.

The CS verified in a speech delivered in Nairobi that 23 employees have been fired following allegations of corruption and suspected ties to illegal loggers.

Tuya added that if the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) links more officers to illicit logging, they will be terminated in the coming days.

She noted that the investigations would encompass the entire organization, including the board of directors.

“We are also here to send a strong warning to all KFS officers including the board of directors that there will be no sacred cows,” said Tuya.

“In addition to the 23, we have additional investigations going on and we shall be rolling out the action to let Kenya know what we are undertaking.”

On the other hand, she disclosed that she was collaborating with other ministry officials to ensure that the nation met its goal of 15 billion trees.

She explained that the 11 October KFS school graduates would be assisting with permaculture.

“During this brief rainy period, we have established a national goal of planting 500 million trees by Christmas. We are praying for consistent precipitation as we work towards this objective, she explained.

Tuya’s statement followed Ruto’s directive to withdraw the 23 officers from the government payroll.

Ruto, who was the principal guest at the KFS officers’ graduation, also directed Tuya and her ministry to implement reforms at the corrupted agency, which had led to illegal logging in the country.

It is unclear if the 23 individuals under investigation have been captured.
