CS Muturi Claims NIS Boss Haji Abducted Son, Freed him After Ruto’s Call

Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Justin Muturi has shared a detailed account of his son’s abduction, implicating the National Intelligence Service (NIS) in the incident.

On January 14, Muturi visited Kilimani Police Station to record a statement after holding a press conference where he revealed his son, Leslie Mutiro, had been abducted.

According to documents obtained by Gossipa2z.com, Muturi alleged that NIS Director General Noordin Haji was involved in the abduction, which occurred in June 2024.

Muturi recalled receiving a distressing call from his daughter-in-law, who relayed information from Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje about Leslie’s ordeal.

Leslie was reportedly taken by armed men in masks while traveling along Denis Pritt Road near Olengruone Avenue. He was with MP Mwenje and High Court advocate Marangu Imanyara at the time, heading to a birthday party in Lavington.

The abductors used a white Toyota Prado, whose details were reported to then Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome. Koome assured Muturi he would circulate the information to all police stations.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo was informed, but Muturi’s attempts to contact both the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the NIS were unsuccessful.

Muturi stated that IG Koome initially suspected a robbery, but Muturi argued that the abductors behaved like security personnel. Despite Koome’s assurances, there were no police operations reported that night.

The investigation faced further obstacles as the Kilimani Police Station was hesitant to release CCTV footage. Once the footage was obtained, it showed Leslie and Mwenje being followed by two vehicles, including the suspected Prado, before Leslie was taken.

Muturi also revealed efforts to involve President William Ruto, personally driving to the State House to discuss the matter. He claimed that after a heated exchange, President Ruto confronted Noordin Haji, who admitted holding Leslie. Following Ruto’s orders, Haji promised Leslie’s release within an hour.

Muturi’s statement also highlighted assurances from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) deputy director, James Onyango, that the ATPU was not involved. However, the CS maintained suspicions that Leslie had been detained by the NIS, adding that his family endured a harrowing experience throughout the ordeal.
