CS Linturi’s Participation in Africa Fertiliser Summit Spurs Controversy Amid Fertiliser Scandal
CS for Agriculture Mithika Linturi has declared that he will be speaking at the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit 2024 at KICC in Nairobi.
The summit’s main goal is to emphasize the crucial importance of fertiliser and soil health for promoting inclusive productivity growth in African agriculture.
Reason for CS Linturi’s announcement causing reactions
CS Linturi announced his involvement in the summit via his X platform account, which led to many Kenyans reacting with skepticism and disbelief.
The reactions mocked Linturi’s qualifications to speak at the summit, citing his alleged role in a fake fertiliser scandal involving stores controlled by the Ministry of Agriculture.
More than 100 MPs signed a petition seeking to impeach CS Linturi due to his alleged role in the fake fertiliser scandal.
After the censure motion was approved, a committee of 11 members from Azimio and the Kenya Kwanza alliance was formed to investigate the allegations against Linturi.
On May 3, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) questioned Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi regarding the fake fertiliser scandal.
Kenyans’ response to Linturi’s X post
Due to the fake fertiliser scandal, Kenyans showed disapproval of the CS’s involvement in the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit scheduled from May 7 to 9, 2024.
@Egline_Samoei tweeted:
“Africa Fertiliser Summit, while Kenyan Farmers were sold fake fertiliser under his supervision? @_AfricanUnion needs to take this seriously.”
@muthoni_njakwe questioned:
“Is this some kind of joke?”
@Wekesa_Wabwire commented:
“You can’t educate us on fertiliser unless you plan to discuss the fake fertilisers.”
@Kuimashaah remarked:
“I admire the boldness.”

@Camundih stated:

@eduzmi added:
“Given a pending criminal case and ongoing impeachment efforts? Shame on you @_AfricanUnion. People should line the streets with signs detailing your crimes.”
@Commonmundu expressed:
“It’s deeply embarrassing that you will attend a discussion on a topic you have failed to handle effectively as the CS.”
The fake fertiliser scandal in Kenya
Previously on Gossipa2z.com, Kenyan farmers voiced concerns about counterfeit fertilisers sold at NCPB stores, raising questions of quality and authenticity.
President William Ruto’s administration acknowledged the existence of fake fertiliser across the country, jeopardizing its subsidy program.
CS Linturi dismissed the impeachment motion from MPs, arguing their standards for determining fertiliser quality were questionable.
