CS Linturi: “Msinihurumie, Mimi Sitishwi” Amid Impeachment Bid

Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi has stated that he is not worried about attempts by some MPs to impeach him over the supposed fertilizer controversy.

During a speech in Central Imenti, Meru County, on Sunday, the CS assured residents that he was not concerned or bothered by the actions taken by the lawmakers.

The CS stated that he is aware of his responsibilities as the head of the Agriculture docket and that his only reporting line is to President William Ruto.

Linturi assured that by theย week’sย end, there will be a resolution regarding the supposed fake fertilizer scandal.

“So nyinyi musinihurumie mimi, sitaki wale wananiandikia message oh pole. Pole nini. Mimi niko kwa serikali na Rais anajua ile kazi nafanya sasa unafikiria mimi ntu wakutishwa,” said Linturi.

Loosely translated as  “Don’t pity me, I don’t want a pity party so stop sending me empathetic messages. I am in government and the President is aware of my work. Do you think I’m someone who can be intimidated?”

The alleged sale of counterfeit fertilizer to farmers caused a stir in Parliament this week, with over 110 MPs backing a motion to impeach CS Linturi.

Bumula MP Wanami Wamboka formally submitted a request to Speaker Mosesย Wetangโ€™ulaย on Wednesday, seeking authorization for the motion.

The decision poses a significant risk toย Linturi’sย position in the Cabinet, as numerous MPs from President Williamย Ruto’sย UDA partyย are supportingย the proposed bill.

The motion is seconded by Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere.

The petition claims that Linturi committed aย seriousย breach of the Constitution by not conducting public consultations before initiatingย the process ofย purchasing and distributing fertilizer.

The MP from Bumula called on his fellow parliamentarians to back his motion after it was given the green light by the Speaker.

He promised to remain uncompromised, revealing that he hasย been approachedย by individuals asking him to abandon the impeachment effort since he initiated it.

โ€œWe are awaiting approval so it goes to the House Business Committee. We are looking at either Tuesday or Wednesday next week and we are done with Linturi,โ€ Wanami stated.

โ€œWe’ve enough grounds to impeach Linturi.ย Thisย is a moral question, thereย is no Azimio or Kenya Kwanza. We have no problem with the President.โ€

Central Imenti MP Kirima Nguchine, speaking at the fundraiser,ย encouraged Linturi to persevere and concentrate on fulfilling his duties to Kenyans.ย Nguchine attributed the criticisms against Linturi to attempts by certain MPs to disrupt theย government’sย stability.
