CS Kuria Vows to Protect Ruto: Warning Shot to Uhuru
Trade Secretary Moses Kuria stated on July 9 that he is prepared to defend President William Ruto against political and physical assault.
The outspoken politician insisted in a statement that all Kenyans, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, must respect the Head of State and admit that he won the election.
“Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta must respect President William Ruto and embrace his election victory. This nation is greater than Uhuru and his interests declared Kuria.
“I will personally defend and protect this government, just as I did when my fellow constituent was president. The Mt Kenya region is a significant investor and beneficiary of this government, and we will no longer tolerate this foolishness.”
Kuria’s statement was made in response to UDA allegations that the former head of state played a central role in organizing the opposition’s anti-government protests on Saba Saba on Friday, July 7.
During the protests that resulted in the deaths of six people and the injuries of several others, former prime minister Raila Odinga launched a 10-million-signature petition to delegitimize Ruto’s government.
On the same day, Kuria insinuated that the initiative was Uhuru’s idea to keep former prime minister and protest leader Raila Odinga off the streets.
“I appreciate the 10 Million signatures initiative. This is Uhuru’s method of keeping Raila occupied and off the streets, he explained.
Other leaders allied with President Ruto asserted that on July 6, Uhuru presided over a meeting with Azimio legislators where they devised countermeasures to impede government operations.

According to Dennis Itumbi, the gathering of 10 million signatures to depose the President was the primary objective of the meeting.
“Today, after an early-morning meeting at Raila Odinga’s residence in Kerarapon between Former President Uhuru and Raila Odinga, Uhuru resigned. Azimio convened a top-secret emergency meeting.
“At the meeting, it was decided that there would be no maandamano in Nairobi and that they would instead travel to Kamukunji grounds to launch the website and public signature collection,” Itumbi stated.
Raila insisted, however, that the nationwide demonstrations were organized to force Ruto to reduce the cost of living, lower petroleum prices, and maintain transparency in the recruitment of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.
Kuria and Uhuru, who are both from the Gatundu South Constituency, had a close relationship during the former Head of State’s first term, but their relationship deteriorated during his second term when the former switched his allegiance to Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) camp.
