CS Kuria Unveils His Connection with Gachagua
On Monday, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria discussed the status of his relationship with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in light of a sequence of implicit messages that appear to indicate a specific animosity stemming from their rivalry over the Mt. Kenya kingpin.
During a media interview, the CS refuted the claim that his relationship with the Deputy President is strained.
“I do not have any problem with the Deputy President. He has his roles and he knows the constitution,” Kuria stated.
In support of his position, CS Kuria cited a prior statement by Gachagua in which the Deputy President stated that his role as the nation’s second in command is clearly delineated in the constitution and thus lacked enthusiasm in the kingpin debate.
Additionally, he stated that because the Kenya Kwanza government is collaborative, every CS works directly with the DP.
“Constitutionally the DP is my boss. I have known him for a long time even before coming to parliament in 2017,” Kuria stated.

The CS disclosed that during Gachagua’s tenure as Mathira’s representative, he collaborated closely with Kuria, who at the time presided over a parliamentary committee.
Kuria disclosed that although he initially did not endorse Gachagua as the running mate of President William Ruto in 2022, he eventually put his support behind him when he was elected.
“I had stopped campaigning for myself for a while in 2022. Gachagua and I went across the country to campaign for Ruto,” he recalled.
Kuria further minimized Gachagua’s admission that their dispute originated from his preference for Wamatangi’s candidacy for the Kiambu Governorship in 2022 over CS Kuria.
The CS observed that Gachagua’s support for a party member for the seat was only equitable.
On Sunday, the Deputy President asserted that Kiambu mayoral candidates harbor animosity towards him due to his support for Wamatangi.
