CS Kuria tells off critics over increased fuel prices: “Chimba Kisima Yako”

Cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industries Moses Kuria has told off critics over the high price of fuel.

Speaking while in Eldoret on Friday, Kuria said that the price of crude oil worldwide has increased hence the high cost of fuel prices, yet people were complaining.

“Ukishinda asubuhi mpaka jioni , bei ya mafuta imeongezeka, si uchimbe kisima yako? Wale watu wamakelele kama wakona kisima, niko tyari kuchimba kesho,” he said.

This loosely translates to: From morning till evening If you keep on saying the price of fuel has gone up, why don’t you dig your own oil well? Those people making noise, If they have their own well, I’m ready to start digging tomorrow.

His statement comes even as Kenyans continued to express their anger after the government announced sky-high fuel prices.

CS Kuria had earlier told Kenyans to expect more rise in fuel prices for the next five months.

He said that the prices will be increasing as the Global Crude Prices are on an upward trajectory.

“For planning purposes expect pump prices to go up by Sh10 every month till February, “Kuria said in a statement.

Fuel prices have crossed a record Sh200 mark for the first time in Kenya’s history, with the rate rising by as much as Sh20 for every liter.

In its latest price review released on Thursday, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

Revised the prices upwards as follows; Super Petrol by Sh16.96, Diesel by Sh21.32, and Kerosene by Sh33.13.

This means the pump prices will be as follows; Super Petrol at Sh211.64, Diesel at Sh201, and Kerosene at Sh202.13 per litre in Nairobi.

The prices have remained unchanged for the last two months.

The rise comes after the government scrapped fuel subsidies and insisted that it would allow market forces to dictate the costs in the country.
