CS Kuria Clashes With Linturi Over National Event

Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary (CS) of Trade, disregarded Mithika Linturi’s request to postpone an event in Meru County yesterday.

In Meru, where political tensions exist between Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), Kuria is expected to launch the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CIP) today.

Due to the political dispute in Mt Kenya County, Mithika Linturi requested that the event be postponed indefinitely.

โ€œTomorrow (October 2), I groundbreak CIP in the great Meru County. I have received requests from my colleague Mithika Linturi and the Meru leadership due to the prevailing political situation,โ€ Kuria divulged a conversation between him and the former Meru Senator.

    โ€œWith profound respect, I will not postpone.โ€

Kuria explained his decision to deny Linturi’s request by stating that unemployment and destitution in the region could not wait.

He explained that he would not place the CIP vision on hold so that political leaders could fix their dysfunctional politics.

The integration parks are the result of a collaboration between the National and County Governments.

Today, Kawira Mwangaza will host Kuria at a time when MCAs have pledged to file a second impeachment motion against her.

During the first motion for impeachment, the MCAs accused the governor of exceeding her authority by refusing to award the ward development fund.

While the MCAs have not yet disclosed the grounds for her second impeachment motion, Mwangaza asserts that the local leaders are being driven by a powerful individual who is plotting the general election of 2027.

Yesterday, while on a visit to Meru County, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stated that he would stay out of local politics.

โ€˜โ€™We have talked with the Governor, Deputy Governor, and all leaders and we have all agreed that this is a Meru problem,โ€™โ€™ he stated adding President William Ruto would also not be involved in Meru County affairs.

He added that Linturi and the county’s leadership should meet with religious leaders to find a local solution to the region’s political disputes.
