CS Kindiki: Gov’t Probing Marsabit Political and Religious Leaders in Killings

Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretary (CS) of the Interior, has announced that the State is investigating several political and religious leaders who are believed to be stoking ethnic tensions in Marsabit County for personal gain.

Wednesday, while meeting with the county’s security and intelligence team in Marsabit, CS Kindiki stated that there has been an increase in the number of ethnic conflicts in the region, which have resulted in the loss of life and widespread property destruction.

Even though grazing land is frequently a source of conflict, he implied that the origins of many conflicts are often deliberate.

“Over the past few weeks, there have been incidents of livestock theft. The CS warned all leaders who have profited financially and politically from inter-communal tensions that they are under investigation.

“We will investigate the recent murders in Marsabit County with impartiality. Current and former political leaders in Marsabit County, as well as religious and community leaders, are on our radar.

If any leader is found responsible for aggravating ethnic tensions in the region. The Interior Minister said, they will be prosecuted according to the law.

We will not consider political, religious, or racial considerations when securing Marsabit. “I have instructed the County Security team that a criminal is a criminal and that those responsible for the murders must be apprehended,” said the CS.

Subsequently, he urged communities in the region to avoid becoming instruments of political leaders’ violence.

“Countries have been annihilated by negative ethnicity, and communities have been annihilated by the friction caused by negative ethnicity. We cannot allow Marsabit to proceed in this manner,” he stated.

The county secretary also disclosed that security officers will cordon off Marsabit forest to prevent bandits and cattle rustlers from using the forest as a hideout before carrying out attacks.

“Access to the Marsabit forest was difficult to restrict during the drought.” “Now that the rains have arrived, the forest must be sealed and access restricted to increase security and prevent criminals from using it as a hiding place,” he stated.

Using the multi-agency security apparatus. We will flush out criminals from Marsabit forest. In the same way that we were able to remove bandits and criminals from their hideouts in gorges. Escarpments, and ravines in North Rift Valley Counties.
