CS Ababu’s Parliament Q&A

Wednesday afternoon, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba is anticipated to be questioned in plenary regarding allegations that he slept on the job.

According to order documents seen by GossipA2Z.Com, the minister will be questioned on a variety of contentious issues, beginning with the role of the Ministry in facilitating the Kenyan team that attended the 2023 Special Olympics in Berlin, Germany.

On this subject, he will be expected to explain why the team left the country without the CS or a Ministry representative waving them off.

He will also explain why he did not consider it reasonable to receive and honor the team upon their return to the country for their monumental performance.

The final query on the subject will ask what measures the ministry is taking “to ensure the anomaly of mistreatment of athletes does not occur again.”

The second issue on which CS Namwamba is anticipated to shed light is the administration of aquatic sports in the country.

The plenary will require an explanation as to why Kenya Aquatics has historically been unable to comply with World Aquatics rules and decisions, including holding elections despite the establishment of a Stabilization Committee on 28 June 2022.

Namwamba must also explain the measures taken by the Ministry to ensure that the Kenya Aquatics Stabilization Committee conducts elections, as well as the date on which the elections will be held.

He will be required to explain how the ministry will facilitate Kenyan swimmers’ participation in the World Aquatics Championships in Qatar in February 2024 and the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.

Lastly, he will be required to explain how the ministry intends to address discrimination, injustice, and obscurity in the selection criteria for swimmers competing in various swimming competitions.

The proposal to interrogate Namwamba was presented to the House on August 17 by Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who was dissatisfied with the Sports CS’s management of the ministry and demanded an investigation into his performance.

Ichung’wah remarked that it is appalling that no one from the Sports Ministry endeavors to celebrate or welcome returning teams.
Senator Samson Cherargei of Nandi echoed his sentiments, claiming that Sports ministry officials travel with “girlfriends” at the expense of the nation’s top athletes.

Other leaders who have joined the censure movement include the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Gladys Shollei, and the Senator for Kisii, Richard Onyonka.
