Crucial Summit: Gachagua Gathers Kiambu Leaders Amid Impeachment Threats
Monday will find Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, to receive Kiambu leaders.
The meeting takes place amid rumors that Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is on the verge of being impeached.
The impeachment proceedings have caused a schism among the authorities of Kiambu.
Kimani Ichung’wah, leader of the National Assembly Majority, stated on Sunday in Kiambu that the city is confronted with an unmistakable crisis.
“I know you (Gachagua) have called us as Kiambu leadership to your official residence. We cannot pretend that the county doesn’t have a problem,” he said.
“We thank you for calling us because we have a problem and as leaders, the best we can do is to pray to God to give us the wisdom to be able to confront all our challenges truthfully.”
DP Gachagua, for his part, emphasized that he has been entrusted by President William Ruto with the responsibility of uniting the Kiambu County leadership and preventing the county from deteriorating.
“I have invited the Kiambu leaders so that I may know what the problem is. We are all serving the people of Kiambu and we were all elected on a UDA ticket. What is this all infighting for?” he posed
The DP highlighted the unfavorable “noise” emanating from the county, adding that Kiambu was among the regions that voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Nevertheless, the leaders will have separate meetings with the DP, who will begin the day with the MCAs, then the MPs, and finally the Governor of Kiambu, in the morning.
There are 27 nominated MCAs and 60 elected MCAs from Kiambu who are divided regarding Wamatangi’s leadership.

Kiambu MCAs, dissatisfied with the administration of Governor Wamatangi, have threatened to file an impeachment motion unless the governor agrees to a change in strategy.
The MCAs stated on Wednesday that they have sufficient evidence to present Wamatangi with a notice of impeachment.
The MCAs, headed by Kikuyu Ward MCA Kamau Boro, accused the UDA Governor in a media briefing of allegedly failing to manage the Executive.
“The Governor runs the affairs of the County as a lone ranger with little respect as to the importance of County Assembly as far as oversight, transparency, and accountability,” he claimed while reading a statement.
The MCAs highlighted development projects, particularly roads, stating that despite the passage of their budget during the previous fiscal year, access to roads hardly improved and remained in a deplorable condition.
Subsequently, the MCAs presented Wamatangi with a 21-day ultimatum to respond to the accusations brought against him; failure to do so would result in their refusal to consider his removal.
Nonetheless, a faction consisting of a minimum of 49 MCAs emerged in support of Governor Wamatangi in light of the impending impeachment.
Peter Mburu, MCA for the Kamenu constituency, stated in a statement read during a press briefing outside the assembly precincts on Friday that the assembly does not wish to pursue impeachment.
“In the light of a statement made by some of our colleagues regarding a potential impeachment, we the undersigned members of county assembly firmly assert that Kiambu is not prepared for the removal of the Governor from office,” Mburu said.
