Court Acquits Former NHIF Boss Richard Kerich in Ksh 116 Million Fraud Case
A Nairobi Anti-Corruption court has acquitted former National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) chief executive Richard Kerich of conspiracy to defraud the government of Ksh116 million.
According to the court, the prosecution failed to prove their case that has dragged in court for years.
Kerich had been charged alongside four others and a medical center with the loss of millions for civil servants and disciplined forces medical scheme.
The other accused are Marwa Chacha, David Kipruto Chingi, Peter Ngunjiri Wambugu, and Ndiba Wairioko.
Kerich was acquitted alongside his co-accused in a matter that has dragged in court for almost a decade.
The prosecution argued in court that the officials agreed with a third party knowing very well that the company could not provide the services the agency needed.

They were further accused of abuse of office over the offenses that they allegedly committed between 2011 and 2012.
According to the prosecution, it emerged that the private medical center that was awarded the tender by the national insurer could not deliver.
However, Kerich and his co-accused denied the charges of conspiracy to defraud the State, arguing that they acted within the law.
The suspects were first freed by the court in 2017 after a judge ruled that they did not have a case to answer after the prosecution failed to prove their case.
Senior Principal Magistrate Martha ruled then that the prosecution did not provide the audit report to prove their case.
DPP, however, went back to court to seek fresh orders and the court ruled in 2021 that the suspects had a case to answer.
