Collins Kibet, Moi’s Grandson, Nabbed in Rongai After Months on the Lam
Collins Toroitich Kibet, grandson of the late President Daniel Moi, was apprehended after evading capture for several months.
Kibet was arrested in Ongata Rongai on Wednesday, September 17, concluding a demanding seven-month search by authorities.
The former President’s grandson faced legal action for ignoring court orders to financially support his two children.
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant earlier this year, Kibet disappeared, complicating efforts by authorities to find him.
The legal troubles for Kibet began in 2021 when his ex-wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi, took him to court over allegations of failing to meet his financial responsibilities for their children.
At that time, Kibet claimed financial hardship, stating that he could only afford his children’s medical expenses through the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and was surviving on charity.

A 2021 affidavit presented in a Nakuru court revealed that due to financial difficulties, Kibet’s children had to be transferred to a public school.
As of a 2022 court decision, Kibet was in arrears of at least Ksh 2.2 million in child support.
Jeruto, who ran for a Koibatek Ward seat in the 2017 General Election, has informed her lawyer, Steve Biko, that she cannot solely support the two children financially.
In March 2024, it was reported that the children, both teenagers, were kept out of school due to unpaid fees.
An arrest warrant was issued for Kibet in March 2024 after he missed two months’ worth of court appearances.
Despite numerous attempts to serve him with court orders, Kibet evaded capture, leading to contempt proceedings against him being launched in January 2024.
Previously, Kibet denied ever being married to Jeruto and claimed to have two other children with a different partner living abroad.
