After transferring 29 Court of Appeal Judges from various locations across the nation, Chief Justice Martha Koome has made modifications to the Judiciary.

In a letter to the President of the Court of Appeal, Daniel Musinga, the Chief Justice advised him to implement the modifications agreed upon during their consultation.

The 29 Justices are anticipated to report to their new workstations on Friday, September 15, according to Chief Justice Koome.

“Following consultations with the Judge President of the Court and to enhance service delivery at the Court of Appeal, it has become necessary to re-organize the Court as per the schedule of benches below,” Koome noted.

“However, this schedule should be regarded as a guide as nothing stops the President from constituting different benches or swapping them as the exigencies of work will demand from time to time.”

Justice Jesse Lessit, who was previously stationed in Mombasa, is among those transferred. Lessit is anticipated to return to the Court of Appeal in Nairobi.

Justices Patrick Kiage and Francis Tuiyott have been transferred from the Kisumu Court of Appeal to the Nairobi Court of Appeal, along with other notable figures.

By the Chief Justice’s transfer advisory, Justice Gatembu Kar has been transferred from the Mombasa Court of Appeal to the Nairobi Court of Appeal.

Hannah Okwengu and Hellen Omondi have also been transferred from the Court of Appeal in Nairobi to the Court of Appeal in Kisumu.

Justices Hannah Okwengu, Hellen Omondi, and Professor Joel Ngugi, who previously served as High Court judges in constitutional matters, will comprise the Kisumu bench.

The revamped Nakuru Court of Appeal consists of Justices Fatuma Sichale, Fredrick Ochieng, and Weldon Korir.

Justices Jamila Mohammed, Wanjiru Karanja, Luka Kimaru, and Aggrey Muchelule will comprise the bench of the Court of Appeal in Nyeri.

The second civil panel of the Court of Appeal will consist of Justices Gatembu Kar, Francis Tulyott, Jessie Lesit, and Grace Ngenye.

The third bench of the Court of Appeal on civil matters will have Justices M. Warsame, S. Ole Kantal, Pauline Nyamweya, John Mativo, and Paul Gachoka.
