China Opens Doors: Kenyans Granted Visa Access Without Appointments

Kenyan visa applicants will no longer be required to schedule appointments, as the Chinese Embassy has announced, to streamline the process for domestic visitors to the East Asian economic powerhouse.

The embassy advised Kenyans desiring a Chinese visa to submit their applications directly to the Visa Application Service Centre in Nairobi, as stated in a statement.

Applicants must submit all applications during business hours. The new directive will be implemented beginning on November 20.

Some Kenyans relocate to China for academic purposes, while the majority travel there for business, as the continent’s second-largest economy asserts its dominance.

“To further facilitate the exchange of China and Kenya, the Chinese Embassy in Kenya will completely cancel visa appointments from November 20, 2023,” read part of the statement.

Nevertheless, the processing time and fees will remain unaltered, according to the Embassy.

In the past, Kenyans have lodged complaints regarding stringent visa prerequisites that increase the cost of travel by imposing substantial fees, causing delays, and requiring applicants to expend additional financial resources.

Applicants must complete the application form electronically via the website of the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Nairobi, which can be found at Visa for China. cn/NBO2_EN/.

Download and print the completed form, then include it with the other required materials when applying.

Applicants were advised by the embassy to submit their applications outside of prime hours to prevent overcrowding and delays.

Applicants who have previously completed online appointments will be given primacy, per the embassy.

“Applicants who have already completed online appointments will be given priority for submitting their documents within the corresponding time slot at the appointment date by presenting the confirmation page upon arrival,” read part of the statement.
