CBK Introduces 4 Changes to All Banknotes
The Central Bank of Kenya revealed on Wednesday that it will be implementing four significant modifications to all banknotes.
According to the statement, moving forward, each note will feature the signatures of CBK Governor Kamau Thugge and National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo.
Additionally, the notice highlighted that the print year will change to 2024, and the notes will incorporate new security threads with color-changing effects.
These updates will apply to all denominations, ranging from Ksh50, Ksh100, Ksh200, and Ksh500, up to Ksh1,000.
“The remaining features will be consistent with those from the 2019 series,” the notice stated.
“All current banknotes will remain legal tender and will be used alongside the newly issued notes.”
The CBK also announced that the new banknotes will be released starting with the Ksh1,000 denomination, with others to follow progressively in the coming months.

The CBK explained that users will be able to feel the embossed Kenya name and the denomination value on the notes.
When held to the light, the notes will reveal a perfect lion’s head watermark, the CBK text, and the denomination value visible from both sides.
Additionally, the security thread will appear as a continuous line when the note is held against the light.
When tilted at an angle, users will see the security thread’s specific color for each denomination and a golden band indicating the note’s value, visible under ultraviolet light.
On Wednesday, the shilling traded at Ksh130.00 against the dollar during the opening of the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE).
