Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore and MP Edward Muriu Locked in Karen Home Ownership Dispute

Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary (CS) Florence Bore and Gatanga MP Edward Muriu appear to be engaged in a blame game regarding the ownership of a house in Karen, Nairobi.

MP Muriu accused CS Bore of illegally occupying the home he is selling in Amara Ridge on Saturday morning.

Mary Muriu, the owner of the house, claimed that CS Bore made an offer of Ksh.90 million for the property, whereas she and her husband stated that the final asking price was Ksh.120 million.

In her response on Sunday, CS Bore refuted MP Muriu’s claims, stating that she signed her portion of the sale agreement and submitted it to the MP’s attorneys for their signatures.

She went on to say that she had paid 10% of the agreed-upon amount, which allowed her to occupy the property, and that the remaining balance was due in 90 days.

“In compliance with the respective clauses of the agreement, I sourced a 10 percent deposit from my Sacco and paid it directly to the Vendor’s lawyers’ account via RTGS,” read a portion of her rebuttal.

“We agreed that I would occupy the property while I sought a mortgage facility for the remaining balance, which I expected to obtain within the 90-day transaction period.”

CS Bore asserted that MP Muriu violated the agreement by attempting to evict her children from the property just thirty days after the agreement’s inception.

“Unfortunately, in a baffling turn of events, less than thirty days after the agreement, the Honorable Edward Muriu and his wife attempted to unlawfully evict my children from the house while I was out of the country.

She stated, “They were accompanied by armed thugs, necessitating a police presence on the premises.”

She described the allegations as “fabricated to unlawfully dissociate from the agreement ostensibly because they have found a “better deal”.”

“The transaction was a private agreement between a willing seller and a willing buyer, with both parties duly represented by attorneys in full compliance with the law. Therefore, the media pitch was unnecessary and tangential to the transaction.”

In a swift rebuttal, MP Muriu stated that CS Bore is attempting to forcibly occupy his property by utilizing her leadership strength.

“CS Bore is using her position as CS to illegally occupy my home and continue the occupation with police force. A portion of his statement read, “Its criminal use of state force and abuse of office violates Chapter 6 of Our Constitution.”

MP Muriu further refuted claims that a sale agreement existed, daring CS Bore to present the statement to which she is referring.

“I have never signed a contract of sale with CS Bore, and if she has one, she should submit it. Deposit is paid after the sale agreement is signed. “She should submit the payment receipt,” he instructed.

“A signed sale agreement demonstrates that both the seller and the buyer share the same understanding, and in its absence, all other expressions are void.”

The fact that the property’s keys are still in MP Muriu’s possession raises further questions about how CS Bore gained access to the residence.

“I still possess all of the house’s keys. On June 14th, when our staff arrived to clean the house and mow the lawn, they were surprised to find it occupied.

“Since she moved in, CS Bore has never called me or even texted me back,” he noted.

The Gatanga representative therefore demands that CS Bore vacate the property, maintaining that he has not transacted any money and will not sell the property.

“I’m not holding any cash, I’m not selling the house, and I’m not renting it out either. It is only fair and reasonable for the CS to immediately vacate my home, thereby sparing the Kenya Kwanza government from needless embarrassment and allowing the leaders to discuss crucial matters pertaining to delivering the Kenya Kwanza promises to our people.”
