Bungoma Bar Tragedy: Officer Fires Shots Over Service Denial
A law enforcement officer affiliated with the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) was apprehended after firing shots at a social venue in Bungoma County.
Based on a report from the Occurrence Book viewed by Kenyans.co.ke, it was outlined that the officer, along with another colleague who is currently missing, went to the entertainment establishment shortly before midnight on Thursday, April 11, and requested service.
As the nightspot neared closing time, the officers were refused service, sparking a confrontation with one of the staff members.
Shortly thereafter, the arrested officer drew his gun and fired a shot into the air.
“They got annoyed and exchanged insults with the attendant and immediately the officer shot one round of 7.62mm making the revellers scamper for their safety.
“The two warders then went downstairs and spread in different directions and started shooting indiscriminately,” read the report in part.

The police reported that nearby residents became furious over the incident at the bar, leading them to pursue and overpower the officer, ultimately seizing his firearm.
Nevertheless, law enforcement authorities asserted that the officer sustained injuries amid the confrontation and was attacked by the crowd.
“Police Officers rescued him from the riotous mob and recovered the G3 rifle which was loaded with ten rounds of ammunition. Two used cartridges were recovered from the scene and kept as exhibits.
“The rifle has been marked and kept as an exhibit,” the report added.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the wounded officer underwent medical care at a nearby hospital and is now under police supervision.
A manhunt has also been launched for the other officer who ran from the mob and the police.
