Building Collapse in Bungoma County Leaves 2 Dead, Several Trapped
Several people are presumed dead following the collapse of a building in the Kanduyi area of Bungoma County.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the late morning, resulting in around 5 deaths and leaving many others trapped under the debris.
The building reportedly fell during its demolition by the Bungoma County Government for the expansion of Masinde Muliro Stadium.
The structure had been partially demolished, leaving it in an unstable state and posing a significant risk to nearby residents.
A rescue team was swiftly sent to the scene as bystanders watched the situation from a distance.
In videos shared widely, the building can be seen leaning on one side, with its lower portion completely destroyed.

Once the building collapsed, some local youths quickly rushed to the site to scavenge for metal scraps.
The collapse occurred as preparations were underway for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations at Masinde Muliro Stadium.
Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati’s father recently accused the Bungoma County government of demolishing his Ksh500 million building to expand the stadium.
Wangamati’s father stated that he had legally obtained the land and demanded compensation from the county government.
โI legally acquired this land. It was advertised, and I applied and secured it while operating a petrol station called Ajip,โ he said.
โIf I were a land grabber, I would own large plots in Webuye, where Iโve worked for years,โ he added.
