Brutal Beatdown- Nyamira Teacher Battered by Raging Principal for Arriving Late

Vincent Onyancha, a teacher in Ikonge, started his day like any other, but it quickly turned into a nightmare.

Reports indicate that Onyancha was allegedly attacked by the school principal for arriving late. He told Citizen Digital that his boss physically assaulted him while he was in class, in front of his students.

“He kicked and slapped me,” Onyancha said. “Then, he dragged me to his office, where he continued to beat me.”

Following the incident, Onyancha was taken to a nearby hospital in Ikonge for treatment due to the injuries he sustained.

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) strongly condemned the principal’s actions. They demanded that legal steps be taken against him, warning that teachers would go on strike if no measures were implemented.

Parents Attack St. Gabriel Isongo’s Principal

Onyanchaโ€™s case is not the only one where a teacher has been attacked. St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Mumias East also made headlines when parents physically confronted the school principal over poor Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

A video showed a parent entering the principalโ€™s office and forcefully removing him after a heated altercation.

The school had recorded unsatisfactory grades: one B, one B-, eight Cs, 12 C-s, 24 D+s, 46 Ds, 79 D-s, and four Es, which left parents frustrated.

Following the attack, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) transferred 17 teachers from the school. This caused disruptions in learning and teaching, as all government-employed teachers were reassigned to different schools on January 18.

Just a few days later, on January 21, TSC also relocated six teachers from St. Martin Mafuta Secondary School in Soy constituency. This move came after parents attacked the principal, blaming him and the administration for the schoolโ€™s poor KCSE performance.

    Other Cases of Teacher Attacks

Teacher assaults have become a growing concern. In Kericho, a teacher named Collins Mutai from Testimony School was reportedly attacked and killed by unknown individuals while heading home from work.

Meanwhile, police launched an investigation into an attack on Collins Omondi, the principal of God Bura Secondary School, after students allegedly assaulted him for giving them porridge without sugar.

In another case, Teremi Boys High School had to shut down indefinitely after students vandalized the principalโ€™s residence on January 20. The students were reportedly protesting the Y grades that appeared in their KCSE results.
