Bomet Residents Storm Governor Barchok’s Office Demanding His Resignation
On Saturday evening, residents of Bomet gathered at Governor Hillary Barchok’s office, calling for his resignation.
Angry inhabitants forcefully entered the county offices, insisting that the Governor step down due to what they perceived as inadequate progress in County development.
Even though they trespassed onto the property, the inhabitants failed to encounter the governor, who remained unresponsive to their calls for departure following a session of chanting and calls for the governor’s removal.
This event occurred shortly after the locals taunted Barchok while President William Ruto was visiting the county.
The heckling is believed to stem from ongoing power struggles between Governor Barchok’s backers and Senator Hillary Sigei’s supporters.
Previously, amidst President William Ruto’s tour focused on development, the locals vocally opposed the Governor, preventing him from addressing the crowd as he approached the podium.

The President had to step in to soothe the locals. Ruto seemed annoyed by the frequent interruptions that have been occurring at his rallies across Kenya.
In this regard, Ruto cautioned residents against engaging in heckling and also advised politicians against incentivizing youths to disrupt their opponents’ rallies.
He further emphasized to the inhabitants that they had chosen the politicians through their votes and suggested that it would be prudent to replace them during the upcoming elections, as they were ultimately accountable for their incumbency.
“I don’t want this behavior in meetings. You are the ones electing these leaders; the MCAs, MPs, and even the governor. If someone is not working please wait for them during the elections. At the moment we are in a meeting,” stated the president.
During a recent event in Kericho County, Governor Eric Mutai faced opposition from residents who heckled him, preventing him from addressing the crowd.
Additionally, several weeks prior, inhabitants of Kiambu voiced similar discontent against Kimani Ichung’wah, prompting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to step in and urge the residents to maintain calm.
