Tuesday morning, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria decided to endure the cold and take a boda boda to the cabinet meeting at Kakamega State Lodge hosted by President William Ruto.

Kuria, who was accompanied by his subordinates, explained that he was avoiding arriving late to the meeting to avoid Ruto’s wrath, as the Head of State was extremely punctual.

According to reports, his driver was late to collect him, prompting him to take decisive action rather than wait for his official vehicle.

Kuria disclosed to the boda driver, Philip Etale, in Kakamega’s Milimani estate that he was prepared to depart for the meeting by 6:20 a.m., but did not reveal when the meeting was scheduled to begin.

“I am very surprised to see you so early and without your automobile. Your chauffeur is running late, right? Did he sleep in Nairobi? inquired the boda driver.

“My chauffeur is running late. We are on our way to a cabinet meeting, and the president is presently being quite stern. Stop telling tales and let us go, the CS replied.

Minutes later, in a separate tweet, Kuria announced that he had arrived on time at the meeting location and shared a video of police officers greeting him at the State Lodge.

His decision to ride a boda boda sparked debate among numerous Kenyans, with some praising his punctuality.

Kuria was among the cabinet secretaries and senior government officials whom Ruto reprimanded for tardiness at the signing of performance contracts on August 1 at State House, Nairobi.

The CS and his Interior counterpart Kindiki were barred from the State House event and instructed to compose an explanation letter.

Ruto also cautioned his officers, stating that arriving late to official functions was tantamount to requesting termination.

“We have a job because we have a contract, and if you cannot keep time with your employer, you have essentially fired yourself,” the head of state explained.
