Beatrice Askul Moe, EAC Cabinet Secretary Nominee, Declares Ksh 100M Net Worth
If Parliament approves her nomination, Beatrice Askul Moe will make history as the first woman from Turkana to serve as a Cabinet Secretary in Kenya.
During her vetting before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments last Friday, Moe, who is proposed to be the new Cabinet Secretary for East Africa Community (EAC) Affairs and Regional Development, revealed a net worth of Ksh 100 million.
The nominee clarified that her Ksh 100 million net worth primarily consists of family assets. In her patriarchal community, she explained that family property is considered communal.
“Revisiting the origins of this wealth shows it is unrelated to County Government. This wealth belongs to the family,” she noted. “If you examine the net worth details, they reflect family property rather than personal assets. Our communal lifestyle means that this wealth is not liquid cash but property.”
Moe promised to develop policies that will support individuals from Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).

“If appointed, I will involve people from arid regions in policy discussions and work towards addressing their issues with the Ministry to ensure policies benefit them,” she said.
She highlighted that the neglect of arid lands over the years has reflected poorly on the country. “I will ensure transparency in relief food procurement to prevent common malpractices,” she added.
Regarding a gap in her resume, the nominee explained that she took four years instead of three for her Certificate at Kubujoi Social Training Institute, examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). She needed additional time to obtain a degree to compensate for the lack of a diploma.
On the issue of Migigo Island, Moe suggested organizing a dialogue with all stakeholders and involving non-partisan groups to reach a fair resolution.
In response to Likoni MP Mishi Mboko’s query about engaging youth in regional development, Moe proposed implementing an affirmative action policy. “We need an independent and targeted policy to integrate the youth into various ministries,” she said.
