Bail Granted, But Threat Looms: Babu Owino Fears Rearrest

Babu Owino, a member of parliament for Embakasi East, asserts that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations intends to arrest him as soon as his bail is posted.

In a video viewed by GossipA2Z, Babu, who was speaking at the Milimani law courts, claimed that detectives from the DCI headquarters and the Nairobi area are waiting in the court to transport him once his bail is posted.

The representative for Embakasi East stated that the police can persist with their plan, but he will ultimately prevail.

“We have just completed our court proceedings, and I’ve been released on cash bail. As we speak, CID agents from DCI headquarters and the Nairobi area are waiting to apprehend me if I leave the police cells.”

They, therefore, intend to arrest me at any moment, but we will continue to struggle. “Bungei, we are aware of your plans; proceed accordingly,” Babu says in the video.

Babu is presently being detained in the Milimani law court cells pending the posting of bail.

This is even though Babu’s attorneys have expressed concerns that he will be arrested due to the significant police presence at Milimani.

“How do you bring fully-equipped police officers to remove everyone from the court?” Ndegwa Njiru demanded that we be informed if the courts are inaccessible to the general public.

“Let the police have no access to the court. We’re not here to demonstrate.”
Tuesday evening, Owino was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, shortly after returning from a journey to Mombasa.

He was taken to the Wang’uru police station, where he was detained, before being returned to Nairobi on Thursday and brought before the Milimani law courts.
The representative for Embakasi East was accused of plotting to create disorder.
