Babu Owino to Face Charges in DJ Evolve Shooting

Babu Owino was charged with disorderly conduct while carrying a firearm after firing one bullet at DJ Evolve Milimani.

Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi stated that the prosecution had sufficient evidence to call Babu to the stand.

The trial will begin on June 15, but the ODM lawmaker is currently free on bail.

A Nairobi court found Embakasi East MP Babu Owino guilty of using a firearm at a nightclub.

The lawmaker was charged with disorderly conduct while carrying a firearm after firing one bullet with the intent to shoot DJ Evolve at B-Club on January 17, 2020.

Plenty of evidence In his ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi of Milimani stated that the prosecution had sufficient evidence to warrant Babu’s representation.

Ochoi stated that he was satisfied with the prosecution’s case against the ODM lawmaker.

He refuted the lawmaker’s assertion that the prosecution had failed to prove the allegation.

The prosecution alleged that the second-term lawmaker violated Sections 33 and 31 (1) of the Firearms Act, for which he could face a year in prison or a KSh 10,000 fine if found guilty.

The case’s hearing will begin on June 15. The representative is currently out on bail.

Charge of attempted murder withdrawn In 2022, the court granted DJ Evolve’s motion to drop the attempted murder charge against the member of parliament, but upheld the second count of firearm misuse.

Ochoi remarked that Babu and Evolve were friends before the unfortunate event and have remained so afterward.

He added that the ODM representative was also caring for the DJ.

“In light of the foregoing, I’ve concluded that this is a case in which the court should encourage reconciliation by the constitution, and as such, I will permit the accused to withdraw the first count. “The defendant is exonerated,” said Ochoi.

As a prerequisite for the dismissal of the case, Babu and the DJ agreed before the ruling.

The agreement requires hospital payment, two houses, a car, and a DJ academy.
